Smith said it would be a great achievement if he went past Cronje’s record. "It would be a great honour and wonderful achievement. I would be proud. I have never dreamt of becoming South Africa's leading Test captain," Smith told the media on Thursday.Smith became the youngest South African captain when at 22, he took over from the legendary Shaun Pollock after a shock World Cup exit in 2003."It was an intriguing opportunity to get the captaincy at such a young age. Initially it was just about proving I was good enough. This was about my performance. It was about showing everyone I was strong enough to handle the job," he said.Smith has led his side to 24 Test wins whereas Cronje won 27 Tests for South Africa.
