They had trailed to an Ayegbeni Yakubu penalty, but equalised on the stroke of half-time through Michael Essien before Agogo became the toast of the nation with his 83rd-minute tap-in.
After a cagy opening from both sides, Essien had the first chance when he volleyed over from 25 yards, before Sulley Muntari came close with a swinging free-kick from the right which went into the side netting.Ikechukwu Uche helped the Super Eagles build their first attack when he charged down the right and beat Mensah, but his cross could only be turned wide by Yakubu in the penalty area.After being put on the back foot for most of the opening 20 minutes, the Nigerians finally managed to string a decent passage of passing together, but were almost caught out by Essien on the break.The Chelsea midfielder played in Asamoah Gyan, who struck the right upright with a fantastic shot from inside the penalty area.Agogo then overran the ball after capitalising on an error from the Nigerian defence, before the visitors created their best chance on the half-hour mark.Yakubu held up the ball on the right and played in Uche, who fired a timid 12-yard shot straight at Richard Kingston.But their confidence seemed to be growing an it told in the 34th minute when Uche was brought down by Eric Addo in the penalty area and Yakubu confidently tucked the ball away.More suspect defending by Nigeria five minutes before the break allowed Quincy Owusu-Abeyie to shoot from the edge of the penalty area, but he pulled his shot wide.A lapse in concentration in first-half injury time eventually proved their downfall when Ghana equalised.Muntari floated a cross into the penalty area and Essien's header ricocheted off both posts before dropping over the line with Austine Ejide left standing.
